BROW AFTERCARE
Post Op
The day of the treatment: Absorb
After the procedure, gently blot the area with a clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this as needed until the secretion of fluid has stopped (usually 1-2 hours after). Removing the fluid prevents hardening of the lymphatic fluids.
Day 1-3:
1 time a day, gently clean your brows with the green soap provided using a cotton pad. Do this by using a wiping motion 3-4 times across each brow. Then, using a different cotton pad with clean water, wipe 3-4 times across the brow again to remove green soap residue. Pat dry with a clean and dry cotton pad. I suggest doing your cleanings in the evening after you wipe off all your makeup. This should be the only fluid that touches your brows for 12 days. Apply a rice grain amount of ointment (provided) with a cotton swab TO DRY BROWS and DAB it across the treated area, ONCE a day. Either in the evening before bed AFTER washing your brows or in the morning are good times. Keep the amount of ointment very light. Apply ointment by ‘rolling’ a q-tip across the brow, you do not want to spread the ointment using a pulling or tugging motion, this can pull scabs. Once applied, then roll a clean one to pick up any excess ointment as needed. Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. NEVER put the ointment on wet or damp brows as it will trap moisture. You will apply ointment until the majority of scabs are gone around day 11-12.
Wash your brows, hair, and face separately. We do not want to get your brows wet when washing your face or have cleansing products come into contact with them. This goes the same for in the shower. We don’t want any other products such as hair products touching your eyebrows. When you need to wash your hair, I advise avoiding doing it in the shower all together (at least until after scabbing has begun) and wash in the sink as you would in a hair salon. I understand this is difficult, so once scabbing has begun, if you can do it very carefully as to not get any water or product on your brows, you can wash your hair in the shower.
To wash your face: use a washcloth or makeup wipes, avoiding your eyebrows. Use this method to wash face for 12 days.
When putting on facial moisturizer and makeup, avoid getting onto eyebrows for 12 days.
Days 4-8: Moisturize
On day 4 you will discontinue the greensoap/water cleaning that you did on days 1-3. From here on out you will only apply the ointment provided to your brows and still keep them dry (away from water, sweat, makeup, etc). On day 4/5, your skin will begin to heal and scab up; this is normal and necessary for proper healing. During the scabbing stage, be more careful when applying the ointment by using that rolling method. Any “spreading” of ointment can pull off scabs before they are ready and pull out pigment. The ointment will help moisturize and retain the scabbing. Again, be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. Do this until majority of the scabs are gone (usually around day 11-12).
*NOTE: As scabs fall off, the skin left behind is in the “milk skin stage”. This is newer, freshly healed skin that has a milky appearance that clouds the pigment significantly. You will think that your brows disappeared, but don’t worry, they didn’t! As that milk skin sheds the pigment underneath will soon “bloom” and you will see it again. It is important too to note that the scabs are very dark, darker than your brows on day 1. The difference in the dark scabs and the milk skin are so significant that it makes this even more drastic, but trust the process, it is all normal.
Days 9-12
You’re almost done! On day 9 you may discontinue the ointment. Still no water or anything on your brows until all scabs have cleared around day 12. After day 12 you can go about your normal routine. Don’t forget to schedule your touch up to perfect your brows! The touch up is included in your original appointment and should be booked 5-7 weeks after your initial appointment.
Note: Clients with oily skin may not need to apply ointment every night or sometimes even all together. If you have questions on whether you need to, please contact me.
Here are some more important tips to help with smooth, proper healing and great ink retention:
To reiterate: keep brows dry when not doing cleaning, especially when showering and don’t wash face as you normal would. Submerging brows in water will wash away ink, this includes sweat!
Keep your brows dry & away from makeup, sweat, dirt, & debris
Avoid sweating and exercise for 12 days.
Avoid smoking during healing process.
After your permanent cosmetic procedure, physical activities such as bathing, recreational swimming, gardening, and contact with animals is restricted for the duration of 12 days. This is the duration of healing time for the treated area.
Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.
Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of color. If you have loose skin/scabs that have lifted, do not pull, you may snip away the lifted part carefully using little scissors or cuticle cutters.
Do not use peroxide, Aquaphor, Vaseline, or Neosporin on any areas, use ointment that was supplied to you.
No facials, botox, chemical treatments, or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
Do not get your hair done while healing
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning on the area after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors. Wear sunscreen on brows (after 12 post procedure) to avoid fading over time.
Avoid long, hot showers for 12 days to avoid steam exposure.
Avoid sleeping on your face during healing.
Avoid makeup and facial products on the area for 12 days, including moisturizer.
Avoid using Retin A, Renova, Alpha Hydroxy, Glycolic Acids, retinol, or any other exfoliating products on the brows. They will alter the color and cause premature exfoliation of the pigment over time. I.E. your brows will fade quicker over time.
Remember, with the proper prep and aftercare routine, you will have much better results with your procedure.
