PMU Brow FAQ's

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a form of permanent cosmetics/cosmetic tattooing. Pigment is inserted into the upper dermis of the skin using a hand tool with a blade comprised of tiny needles. Hair like strokes are drawn into the skin using the tool to mimic natural hair flow. Microblading is a more subtle cosmetic tattoo than those done using older methods. Body tattoos use ink while cosmetic tattoo procedures use pigments that are specially designed to fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to color and shape over the years as client’s natural coloration and face changes over time.

WHAT IS MICROSHADING?

Microshading is a form of permanent cosmetics/cosmetic tattooing that uses a rotary machine similar to that of a tattoo machine. A needle tip comprised of one or several needles is used to push pigment in little dots into the upper dermis to create more of a filled in appearance.

DOES IT HURT?

A topical numbing cream is used before and during your procedure. Pain level tolerance varies from person to person but most rate the procedure pain around a 4 on a scale of 1-10. The sensation of microblading can be best described as a moderate scratching while shading is similar to getting a tattoo. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical numbing cream may not last as long on you. Microshading feels about the same on the pain scale.
h your answer, write clearly, and consider adding examples.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Depending on skin type, lifestyle, skin care routine, and most importantly YOUR AFTERCARE, permanent cosmetics can last about 2 years. Oily skin fades pigment faster where as dry, combo, and normal skin tends to hold pigment longer. Touch ups are also recommended after 1 year or when needed to freshen up the color. If you do not get touch ups done, brows will fade away over time leaving a very light haze of the work

DOES MICROBLADING CUT MY HAIR FOLLICLES OR HAIR?

Microblading does not cut your hair follicles or hair. When done properly, microblading only goes deep enough to graze the upper part of the dermis layer of your skin. Hair follicles lie deep within your dermis layer so the blade should never close enough to touch the follicles. Hair is very seldom pulled out during the microblading process. If hair does come out, it is very minor and likely due to an already mature hair that was about ready to come out with a little friction.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

Please read the "Before Your Appointment"  and "After Care" pages before scheduling. There are certain things you must avoid doing at different times before your appointment. The after care is also extremely important to follow to a 'T' so please be mindful when scheduling around certain events that can cause conflicts.

HOW LONG DO THEY TAKE TO HEAL?

Brow healing time takes around 12 days. It is extremely important not to get your brows wet (sweat included, so no vigorous exercise), do not put anything on your brows, including makeup, and keep your brows out of the sun for those 12 days until they are completely healed. Please refer to the "After Care" page for more in depth instructions. Everyone's skin heals differently, but the most important factor in your retention is your AFTER CARE. Lip blush healing time takes about 6 days and the aftercare can be found on my here on my site as well.

CAN YOU COVER UP AN OLD EYEBROW TATTOO?

If the previous brow tattoo was done with tattoo ink by a tattoo artist, several pigment lifting sessions will need to be done to significantly lighten the tattoo. Then, a powder brow coverup is the only option. If the previous work is permanent makeup and has faded considerably you can also do a cover up. Sometimes pigment lifting sessions and/or color corrections will first need to be carried out before doing a cover up. A consultation will be needed regardless of what type of procedure was carried out so please send me a message via text or email. It is possible some clients may be unfortunately turned away.

CAN MICROBLADING/SHADING COVER/CAMOUFLAGE SCARS ?

Microblading is not known to hold well in scar tissue. Shading, however, does and is recommended for scar coverup.

ESTHETICS FAQ'S

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Medical microneedling, or collagen induction therapy (CIT), uses an electronic device to create tiny punctures in the skin. The concept is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself when it encounters physical injury. It stimulates new collagin and elastin, similar to how the body creates new skin to heal an open wound. Note that there are two types of microneedling: cosmetic and medical. Medical microneedling goes deeper than cosmetic needling because it uses a medical-grade device. Medical microneedling can also only be done by a medical esthetician, nurse, or doctor. This is the type of needling I receive.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING USEFUL FOR?

It’s useful for skin scarring issues from injuries or acne, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. It also helps shrink pores and tightens the skin. It’s practically like reverse aging. Everything simply looks smoother, firmer and younger afterwards.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE WHEN YOU’RE DONE?

It looks like your face has been attacked by a pack of fire ants. Your face should be bloody if you received a true medical microneedling. As in, you’re going straight home afterward.

HOW LONG ARE YOU RED AFTER A TREATMENT?

This varies for everyone. I’m only very red for 24 hours and feel comfortable going out after that. By day 5 my skin is back to normal. Occasionally I experience slight bruising underneath my eyes, but nothing that can’t be covered with concealer. Other women bruise intensely and stay very red for up to a week. I’d say a week of redness/bruising is the maximum downtime. I schedule my appointments for Thursday, Friday, or Saturday so that I have the weekend to recover.
